The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki is one of the largest and oldest universities in Greece. Research activities cover all scientific (theoretical and applied) fields. The university includes 10 faculties, consisting of 40 Schools and 1 single-School Faculty. AUTH will coordinate the whole BioValue project and in particular will be the WP leader in WP1 “Project Management”. In addition, AUTH will be the leader of the Task 4.1 “Big data warehouse and social networks’ ontologies” of WP4 “Development of a simulation framework – the BioValue tool. Finally, AUTH will contribute to several tasks of WP2 “Assessment of the current framework of agri-food value chain tools”, WP3 “Mapping of value chain interlinkages and biodiversity effect, WP6 “Environment and Biodiversity”, WP7 “Exploitation of genetic diversity and development of pre-breeding material”, WP8 “Enhancing the agri-food value chain biodiversity links via the BioValue tool, WP9 “Certification, testing and labeling of underutilized products”, most of WP10 “Communication, Dissemination and Capacity Building” tasks since has to follow the course of implementation and WP11 “Ethics Requirements”.

Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research (NIBIO) is to contribute to food security and safety, sustainable resource management, innovation and value creation through research and knowledge production within food, forestry and other biobased industries. Given the experience of NIBIO on value chains analysis, this institution will be the leader of WP3 “Mapping of value chain interlinkages and biodiversity effect” leading the Task of “Visualization of the value chain and its biodiversity effect”. It will also lead the Task of “Product certification” of WP9 “Certification, testing, and labelling of underutilized products”. Furthermore, NIBIO will contribute to WP2 “Assessment of the current framework of agri-food value chain tools”, WP4 “Development of a simulation framework – the BioValue tool, WP6 “Environment and biodiversity”, WP7 “Exploitation of genetic diversity and development of pre-breeding material”, WP8 “Enhancing the agri-food value chain biodiversity links via the BioValue tool”, and WP10 “Communication, Dissemination and Capacity Building. Lastly, NIBIO will lead the Task 1.7 “Ethics and data management” of WP.

ECOSENSUS is a nonprofit SME founded in 2009 in order to develop a local quality food system in the region of Szekszárd in Tolna County, Hungary. ECOSENSUS operates an SFS quality food trademark. Within the BioValue project, ECOSENSUS will contribute to WP5 “Novel dishes and processed products enhancing biodiversity”, WP8 “Enhancing the agri-food value chain biodiversity links via the BioValue tool”, WP9 “Certification, testing and labelling of underutilized products” as well as to WP10 “Communication, Dissemination and Capacity Building”.
ECOZEPT is a French-German based private market research and marketing consulting agency that is engaged, since its foundation in 2000, in the matter of sustainable agro-food markets. Our activities focus on the research and development of market intelligence systems and marketing approaches for sustainable and specific markets in the agro-food business (organic products, regional products, typical traditional products etc.). Given the extensive experience of ECOZEPT on the research and development of marketing approaches for sustainable and specific markets in the agro-food business, this agency will be the leader of WP9 “Certification, testing and labelling of underutilized products” and in particular it will coordinate the Task of “Labelling schemes for non-processed and processed final products” and Task of “Complimentary effects of BioValue final products”. In addition, it will lead the Task of “Conceptual framework for the analysis of the value chain and its effect on biodiversity” of WP3 “Mapping of value chain interlinkages and biodiversity effect”. Also, ECOZEPT will lead the Task “Evaluation of consumers’ preferences” of WP5 “Novel dishes and processed products enhancing biodiversity” and will participate in the activities of the Task “Design of novel food dishes” and Task “Recommendations for processed food products” of this WP. The Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) was founded in 2007 in Limassol, Cyprus. In less than 13 years of operation, the CUT has occupied high positions in international rankings. Given the experience of CUT on the novel plant breeding techniques, this institution will be the leader of WP7 “Exploitation of genetic diversity and development of pre-breeding material”, and in particular will coordinate the work of the Task “Acquisition, multiplication and distribution of crops”, Task “Environmental impact assessment” and Task “Vertical approach to proliferate the results”, and it will be involved in the Task of “Pilot cases”. Also, it will lead the Task of “Assessment of underutilized genetically diverse crops in today’s agro-ecosystems” of WP6 “Environment and Biodiversity” and will participate in the rest Tasks of this WP. In addition, CUT will lead the Task of “Assessing biodiversity contribution of proposed products” of WP9 “Certification, testing and labelling of underutilized products”. Solintagro SL (SOL)
SOL is a young SME that has experience in crop maintenance, development, and seed commercialization as well as collection, preservation and characterization of legume germplasm for its direct use in breeding. Given the extensive experience of SOL on the breeding of legumes and the promotion of legume cultivation in Mediterranean farming systems, this SME will contribute to WP3 “Mapping of value chain interlinkages and biodiversity effect”, WP5 “Novel dishes and processed products enhancing biodiversity”, WP6 “Environment and Biodiversity”, WP7 “Exploitation of genetic diversity and development of pre-breeding material”, WP8 “Enhancing the agri-food value chain biodiversity links via the BioValue tool”, WP9 “Product certification, testing and labelling” and WP10 “Communication, Dissemination and Capacity Building.
The Estonian University of Life Sciences (EMU) is responsible for research and development in areas such as the sustainable use of natural resources, and rural life- and rural economy-related fields. Within the BioValue project, EMU will be the leader of WP6 “Environment and Biodiversity” Specifically, it will coordinate the work of the Task of “Biodiversity – Soil and Landscape linkages” and the Task of “Biodiversity – Water and land use linkages. In addition, it will lead the Task of “Reviewing of biodiversity in the value chain”, the Task of “Selection of agent-based modelling tools suitable for agri-food value chains” of WP2 “Assessment of the current framework of agri-food value chain tools” as well as the Task “Value chain model adaptation to policy environment” of the WP4 “Development of a simulation framework – the BioValue tool”. Justus-Liebig-University Giessen (JLU), founded in 1607, is a differentiated comprehensive university with 28,000 students and a wide range of subjects, organized in 11 faculties. JLU combines a variety of Law, Economics, Humanities and Social Science with research in Natural and Life Sciences that is unique in Germany. Within the BIOVALUE project, JLU will be the leader of WP8 “Enhancing the agri-food value chain biodiversity links via the BIOVALUE tool”, and in particular will coordinate the work on the Task 8.1 “Enhancing farming practices with the BIOVALUE tool” and Task 8.4 “Integrating normative scenarios for improved value chains under future water availability and climate conditions”, while it will be involved in the Task 8.3 “Enhancing retail and market practices with the BIOVALUE tool” of this WP. In addition, it will lead the Task 6.3 “Biodiversity – Climate change linkage” of WP6 “Environment and Biodiversity” and it will be involved in the rest activities of this WP. Within the BioValue project AXIA will be in charge of WP10 “Communication, Dissemination and Capacity Building” implementation. Specifically, it will lead the Task “Dissemination and Communication activities”, the Task “Exploitation plan”, the Task “Knowledge Management and IPR Protection”, the Task “Capacity building, training, and Stakeholder engagement” and Task “The recurring effect of BioValue on biodiversity”. Ege University is one of the largest universities in Turkey. The persons directed to this project are academic staff members in the department of agricultural economics of the agricultural faculty. Since its origins in 1088, the University of Bologna has been student-centered hosting prominent figures from science and the arts. Based in five campuses (Bologna, Cesena, Forlì, Ravenna, Rimini), with a branch in Buenos Aires, it offers a teaching catalogue diversified and tailored to the needs of present-day society: over 200 degree programmes among its 32 Departments and 11 Schools are offered to over 81,000 students, 5,000 graduates are enrolled in PhDs and 3rd cycle programmes. Given the expertise of the research team of UNIBO on economics, vegetables production, food microbiology and food science and technology, this institution has several roles within the BioValue project. It will lead the Task “Analysis of the interlinkages among value chain agents” of WP3 “Mapping of value chain interlinkages and biodiversity effect” and will contribute to the Task “Conceptual framework for the analysis of the value chain and its effect on biodiversity” of this WP. A non-profit organization Georgian Farmers’ Association (GFA) was founded by a few farmers and agribusinesses in 2012. GFA advocates for the interests of farmers and the rural population in policymaking processes and supports the development and modernization of agricultural value chains. Within the BioValue project, GFA will be the leader of the Task “Live Value-chain Stakeholders’ Forum” of WP10 “Communication, Dissemination and Capacity Building” and will also participate in Task 10.1 “Dissemination and Communication activities”, Task 10.3 “Exploitation plan” and Task 10.5 “Capacity building, training, and Stakeholder engagement” in this WP. IDENER.AI is a research SME that investigates in the multidisciplinary field of Computational Science and its application to the optimization of systems and processes in key areas: Industrial Technologies; ICTs; Biotechnology; Energy; and Resource and Raw Materials Efficiency. Given the extensive experience of IDENER on the development of modelling tools, this research SME will lead the Task “Reviewing of agent-based modelling tools” of WP2 “Assessment of the current framework of agri-food value chain tools” and it will participate in the Task “Selection of agent-based modelling tools suitable for agri-food value chains” in this WP. In addition, it will be in charge for the implementation of WP4 “Development of a simulation framework – the BioValue tool”. Specifically, it will lead the Task “BioValue tool architecture and model development specification”, the Task “Dynamic and modular model of the agri-food value chain” and the Task “Interface design and development and normative usage” while it will contribute to the Task “Value chain model adaptation to policy environment” in this WP. Finally, IDENER will contribute to the Task “Recommendations for processed food products” of WP5 “Novel dishes and processed products enhancing biodiversity”, the Task “Enhancing farming practices with the BioValue tool” and the Task “Enhancing food processing practices with the BioValue tool” of WP8 “Enhancing the agri-food value chain biodiversity links via the BioValue tool”, as well as to all Tasks of WP10 “Communication, Dissemination and Capacity Building”.
Capacity Development in Nutrition (CAPNUTRA), Belgrade, Republic of Serbia is a non-profit association actively involved in capacity development in food & nutrition, creation of the nutritional tools and harmonization of the food consumption collection and dietary intake surveys, training and dissemination for Central and Eastern European countries (CEEC)/West Balkan region, organization of nutritional trainings and knowledge transfer. Within the BioValue project and given the extensive experience in nutrition research CAPNUTRA will lead WP5 “Novel dishes and processed products enhancing biodiversity”. Specifically, it will be the leader of the Task “Design of novel food dishes” and Task “Design of novel processed food products” and will contribute to the rest Tasks of this WP. In addition, CAPNUTRA will lead the Task “Enhancing food processing practices with the BioValue tool” of WP8 “Enhancing the agri-food value chain biodiversity links via the BioValue tool”. CONFAGRICOLTURA (CAGRI) is the most important collective organization of Farmers in Italy (a private confederation of associations of farmers with 41-million-euro total turnover), representing 60% of the Country’ territory, 70% of the Agri-food turnover, and 34 % of the Italian farmers. Within the BioValue project, CAGRI will contribute to the Task “Recommendations for processed food products” of WP5 “Novel dishes and processed products enhancing biodiversity”. In addition, it will participate in all tasks of WP6 “Environment and Biodiversity” and WP7 “Exploitation of genetic diversity and development of pre-breeding material”. Finally, CAGRI will be involved in Task “Enhancing farming practices with the BioValue tool” and in Task “Enhancing retail and market practices with the BioValue tool” of WP8 “Enhancing the agri-food value chain biodiversity links via the BioValue tool”, and in several Tasks of WP10 “Communication, Dissemination and Capacity Building”.
Bioland Beratung GmbH (BIOLAND) is an affiliated company of the Bioland Regional Associations and the Bioland Federal Association, in which the Research and Development (R&D) department of the Bioland Association is located. Within the BioValue project, BIOLAND will contribute to WP5 “Novel dishes and processed products enhancing biodiversity”, WP6 “Environment and Biodiversity” and WP7 “Exploitation of genetic diversity and development of pre-breeding material”. In addition, BIOLAND will be involved in Task “Enhancing farming practices with the BioValue tool” and in the Task “Enhancing retail and market practices with the BioValue tool” of WP8 “Enhancing the agri-food value chain biodiversity links via the BioValue tool” and in several Tasks of WP10 “Communication, Dissemination and Capacity Building”.
The Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania (MAICH) is a constituent Institute of the International Centre of Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM). CIHEAM is an Intergovernmental Organization comprised by four Institutes (MAI) located in Bari-Italy, Chania-Greece, Montpellier-France and Zaragosa-Spain, that contribute to establishing a Mediterranean agricultural research area. Within the BioValue project, MAICH will lead the Task “Recommendations for processed food products” of WP5 “Novel dishes and processed products enhancing biodiversity”, and it will be involved in the Task “Design of novel food dishes” and the Task “Design of novel processed food products” of this WP. In addition, it will be the leader of the Task “Clustering activities” of WP10 “Communication, Dissemination and Capacity Building” and will contribute to several activities of this WP. MAICH will also contribute to all Tasks of WP2 “Assessment of the current framework of agri-food value chain tools”, the Task “Enhancing food processing practices with the BioValue tool” of WP8 “Enhancing the agri-food value chain biodiversity links via the BioValue tool”, as well as to several activities of WP9 “Certification, testing and labelling of underutilized products”.
