New Publication: Unlocking the Potential of Lathyrus sativus for Sustainable European Agri-Food Systems

BioValue’s latest scientific publication explores how underutilized crops like Lathyrus sativus (grass pea) can support climate-resilient, sustainable, and diverse agri-food systems. The study combines literature reviews, fieldwork, interviews, and consumer surveys in Germany and Spain to highlight the crop’s strengths: thriving under drought and heavy rain, supporting organic farming through nitrogen fixation, boosting nutrition with proper processing, and inspiring innovative, cross-cultural culinary uses. This research calls for further integration of Lathyrus into European food systems to enhance biodiversity and resilience.
