BioValue’s latest publication, “Behavioral barriers in the inclusion of neglected and underutilized species into mainstream diets,” examines why consumers hesitate to adopt these species, despite their benefits for biodiversity, sustainable food systems, and cultural heritage. The study uses Prospect Theory to analyze behavioral factors and discusses how frameworks like MINDSPACE and the Fogg Behavioral Model can aid in designing effective policies and marketing strategies to encourage consumption of neglected and underutilized species (NUS). By identifying psychological and behavioral barriers, this research aims to promote more inclusive and resilient diets. The article is authored by Pelin Atakan, Cihat Günden, Murat Yercan, Konstadinos Mattas, and Marija Knez.
