The Ege University team participated in the 18th National Social Sciences Congress, held at Middle East Technical University, Ankara (24–26 September 2025), with an oral presentation titled:
“The Missing Link of Agricultural Biodiversity: A Policy-Based Review of Orphan Species in Türkiye.”
This study, conducted by Pelin Atakan, Prof. (PhD) Cihat Günden, and Prof. (PhD) Murat Yercan, explores the role of orphan (Neglected & Underutilized) species in Türkiye’s agricultural policies.
By analyzing current policy frameworks, the research highlights the urgent need for institutional and structural support to reintegrate these species into agri-food value chains. The work contributes to the limited but crucial literature on orphan species in Türkiye from a policy-oriented perspective.
Congratulations to the team for advancing the discussion on biodiversity, sustainability, and food security!
