On May 4th our partners from Confagricoltura participated at the MacFruit fair discussing and making the objectives of our project known to a wide audience of the Italian agri-food sector.
The protagonist of the three days fair was the fruit and vegetable supply chain, a strategic agricultural sector in Italy.
This year Macfruit reached record numbers with 60 thousand square meters of exhibition space, equal to +35% compared to last year (two more pavilions), and even +200% compared to eight years ago. Furthermore, the number of foreign exhibitors did grow a lot (+50%) representing 38% of the total exhibitors, to which around 1500 top international buyers are added.
A hundred appointments over the three days contributed to making the event unique, the thematic halls on the main topics of the sector (Biosolutions, International Blueberry Days, Spices and Medicinal Herbs, Tomatoes, Nurseries), a double test field with the new techniques and technologies of the sector, Calabria Region partner.
Great attendance at an international level with South America as the leading partner area in an entire pavilion, the first time from Mexico and Saudi Arabia, a maxi stand from Egypt with 22 companies, a pavilion dedicated to Africa with 19 countries and the return of China with 32 companies for the first time at an agri-food fair after the Covid.
At the centre of everything is the fruit and vegetable sector, highly known for the strength of its supply chain, so much so that it represents a quarter of national agricultural production (1.2 million hectares cultivated) and involves 300,000 companies.
This was an amazing opportunity to present BioValue to the participants of the fair and explain to them to our concept of introducing underutilized crops into the agri-food value chain improving, thus, agrobiodiversity and overall, the sustainability of the sector.
